The Delhi Assembly Election

After Narendra Modi's rally yesterday ( 10.1.2015 ) at the Ramlila ground in Delhi, I am convinced now that the AAP is going to get a clear majority in the Delhi Assembly elections next month. This is for two reasons :

(1) Despite all out efforts by the BJP which is in power in the centre to bring huge crowds to the rally ( by reportedly hiring 2300 vehicles and even bringing homeless people by offering them food ), there was a poor turnout, leaving many empty seats, which is said to have angered the party leadership.

According to the estimate of the Delhi police, only 35,000 people attended the rally ( see today's 'The Hindu', page 4 ), as compared to 1.35 lacs in Modi's Delhi rally in September 2013.

The reason for this poor attendance seems to be obvious: in the 7 months since the BJP came to power in the Centre, people have seen through the emptiness of the magic mantra 'vikas', which won the Lok Sabha Election for it in May 2014.

There was a time when wherever Modi went there were massive crowds. Those days are gone, as people have seen their high expectations dashed completely. The millions of jobs which were impliedly promised in the name of 'vikas' are not to be seen anywhere, and most businessmen ( except a handful close to Modi ) are very worried.

(2)  Modi's speech was basically negative : attacking Kejriwal as an anarchist who should join the naxals, etc.

Thus Modi seems to have himself realized that the slogan 'vikas' no longer works.

In an earlier post I had mentioned that to win an election something positive has to be offered which the people want.

While Kejriwal is offering something positive i.e. lowering of electricity tariff and bills, and abolition of water charges for the lower segments, etc. which Delhiites are very concerned about, Modi is indulging in only negative talk ( personal attacks on Kejriwal). Of course Modi also spoke of giving 24 hours electricity to Delhi people, but that was more to counter Kejriwal's agenda, and nobody believes it.

Kejriwal is an impulsive and impatient man, but he is basically honest, and will learn from his mistakes. People of Delhi believe that his good points outweigh his bad points, and have forgiven him

  3. Sir, Kejriwal has faults but he is learning. AAP has prepared a detailed map for future work in Delhi under #DelhiDialogue. Please see this: https://the-aap-chronicles.quora.com/Highlights-of-DelhiDialogue

    1. #DelhiDialogue touches upon issues of education, entrepreneurship, health, trade, safety, villages, water, electricity, and many more. AAP's agenda is much more than merely water and electricity bills.

  5. PM Modi had a few hours earlier launched the Delhi BJP poll campaign by exclusively attacking Kejriwal and AAP. From his talk and his projection of himself, few things are clear. First, Congress is no more a force to be even mentioned by the honorable PM, and AAP is the only serious contender in Delhi against BJP. Second, PM noting that for one year there is no progress of work in Delhi, is virtually accepting that the state under Lt Governor rule, working under the Central Home Ministry in control of BJP for last 7 months, has failed to implement any development measures. Third, by attacking AK for 'anarchy' due to dharna, Modi is conveniently NOT answering why he did dharna twice (in AC shamiana and not in 4 degrees Delhi winter) against the Centre as Gujarat CM and signed files from the venue. Also, why Mahatma Gandhi is not an anarchist for his repeated dharnas on issues he identified with. Fourth, by promising power-portability like mobile-portability, PM is not answering why there is NO mobile-portability on ground in reality and how do you promise 24X7 power when you could not handle last summer power crisis in Delhi and neither did you reduce 30% power tariff in Delhi as promised in your manifesto earlier, after assuming governance at Centre. Fifth, where is your promise about complete statehood to Delhi, why silent on SIT on anti Sikh genocide enquiry, and why there is no law/bill passed in Parliament with regards to unauthorized colonies in Delhi on which you are talking publicly? And what about blatant corruption in the BJP run Municipal Corporations of Delhi for more than 7 years now? Another set of promises while those given in Lok Sabha polls are yet to be fulfilled. Finally, NOT having ANY Delhi BJP leader in the forefront of the campaign as CM candidate just as Harshvardhan was the last time and Modi himself was the PM candidate last time, Modi and BJP have accepted that AK is popular in Delhi and their best brand Modi can only perhaps take on the fight against AK and no one else. That is a psychological defeat for BJP on ground, and round one goes to AAP.

  6. Modi should not use sub-standard techniques to call his opponents as "anarchist".

  7. These frustrated retired people will sell the country if they got attention. Even Chanakya advised the intelligence community to target people who think they have not got their due to act as tojan horses. Mr Katju is a personification of all that ails this society.Personal glory is everything for people like him. Peddling lies all the time.

  9. By merely changing the ruling dispanssion from Congress to BJP will not change things in India. Especially when majority of the law makers are criminals, quasi-criminals and corrupt. When corporate succeed in using their political influence to socialize losses and retain more and more of their ill-gotten gains to make thousands of crores and build billion dollar skyscrapers to live, while the common man struggles to get drinking water, health care, toilets, schools, shelter – it does not bode well for the country. When the Corporations convince the government to overpay for their products or can freely over charge the public for their products and services or are given access to public resources at below-market prices (as mining, telecom, media, power generation companies have succeeded in doing), reported financial wealth increases, though the wealth of ordinary citizens does not. All across the nation businesses are robbing the country of its natural wealth. There is lack of transparency and massive corruption in allocation of natural resources as unearthed by media and constitutional bodies like the CAG . BJP & CONGRESS HAVE SAME ECONOMIC & FOREIGN POLICIES AND BOTH ARE PAID SLAVES OF ZIONIST/USA/ISRAEL. SO FAR MODI HAS NOT SHOWN ANY INTENTION OF DUMPING ISRAEL, AMERICA & THEIR PRO RICH ECONOMIC & STUPID FOREIGN POLICIES IMPLIMENTED BY CONGRESS. On top of that the development model of Gujarat has largely benefited the already rich industrialists. The pertinent question here is: Should ‘development’ be limited only to a few powerful Business houses?? Shouldn’t it be inclusive?? Are large industrial projects that uproot the common man from their farmlands, forest and natural environs, the only way to take the nation forward? The answer is a stern NO!! India has blindly adopted the Zionist Economic Policies, without taking into account America ; a one time Super Power is barely crawling and can’t even walk under the load of these Anti-common people and Pro 1% Rich policies. The top 1% owns 43% of the US assets, 9% owns 40%, 10% owns 10% and bottom 80% owns princely 7% US assets. Today America has 50 mil people on Food Stamps, 20 mil unemployed, 30 mil under-employed, 16 mil children facing hunger, 2.5 mil homeless youth and 70 mil with no health insurance. Above all $17 Trillion external debts, $4 Trillion state government debt and $175 Trillion in unfunded liabilities. Today if you sell every American’s assets the total that can be realized is $78 trillion! I HAVE A VERY SIMPLE QUESTION TO EVERY INDIAN LEADER, IF THE ZIONIST/JEWISH (PRO RICH) ECONOMIC POLICIES HAVE BECOME A CURSE FOR AMERICA ; HOW IT CAN BECOME A BLESSING FOR POOR INDIANS?
SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH "There can be no equality, not even in politics and before the law, so long as there is glaring inequality in economic power."
