Do it in England

As a lawyer I was once arguing a criminal appeal before Justice Sapru in the Allahabad High Court. My client had been convicted under section 377 I.P.C. on a charge of having committed sodomy.

I stood up confidently before the Judge, and said :

" My Lord. Section 377. Not an offence in England, who gave us the law. "

To which Justice Sapru retorted :

" Then do it in England. Appeal dismissed "
