I am addressing a meeting of NRIs this evening at 7 p.m. in Fremont, California in the Peacock Indian Restaurant banquet hall. 39447 Fremont Blvd. Fremont
The topic of my speech will be ' Matters relating to the Unity of India '.
During this speech, apart from other things I intend to say, I am thinking of appealing for communal amity by asking Hindus, in India and also abroad, to observe only one day's 'roza' ( fast from dawn till sunset ) in the holy month of Ramzan, which is shortly beginning. This will be symbolic of our ( Hindu's ) respect for Muslims, and it does not mean that I am asking Hindus to become Muslims. I request Muslim friends to tell me which day should we ( Hindus ) observe as roza ?
I may mention that since several years I myself have been observing one day's roza during Ramzan every year, which is symbolic of my respect for Muslims.
I also appeal to Muslims to observe one day's fast every year during the Hindu festival of Navratri.

It is a good idea to ask Moslem friends which is the best date for Hindus to observe Ramadhan. The Moslems consider non-moslems as Khafirs. Unless a Hindu adopts the Moslem Religeon as his own he cannot observe Moslim feasts. Next the Moslim will not observe Hindu feasts since the quoran says there is only one god. Allah.
ReplyDeleteBack in the day, people did not have television, mobile phones, whatsapp, facebook and other gadgets and gizmos to keep them busy. So they had to invent ways to keep themselves busy. Remember the proverb "An idle mind is a devils workshop". The few clever people who conjured up the idea of "God" created these kind of rituals to keep the rest of the people busy.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, there is not need for God in all this or a particular day and time and so on. You can fast on any day :). The scientific explanation is that by fasting you are not feeding any carbohydrates to the body. The main source of energy for the body is glucose, which comes from carbohydrates. When you fast, you don't give the body any external source of energy. So how will the body function? For the body to function the brain has to function. The brain accepts only glucose as the source of energy, so the body converts the stored fat to carbohydrate and then into glucose so that the needed energy is provided to the brain and the body. Hence fasting helps to reduce the cellulite and the deposited fat in the body. This is exactly how people used to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Not like eating potato chips, drinking coke, watching TV the whole day and then after 10 years of doing this going to a doctor for liposuction!!
Apart from showing respect to other religions, it's also good from health points. Also, offering namaaz to God in Muslim religion resembles with many postures of Yoga. I really liked the idea Sir!
