Dear Mamataji,
You must have learnt that the Chief Minister of Maharashtra has ordered the suspension of the police officers who ordered the arrest of the Mumbai girl who posted on Facebook her objection to the shutdown of Mumbai on the death of Bal Thackeray.
I request you to do the same to the policemen who ordered and implemented the arrest of Prof. Mahapatra of Jadavpur University and Siladitya Choudhari, and you should immediately withdraw the cases against them and apologize to them. You should also immediately restore Damyanti Sen, the upright police officer, whom you wrongly victimized, and you should openly apologize to her for your wrong. We are all human beings and we all make mistakes, but a gentleman is one who realizes his mistake and apologizes. You should also apologize to Tanya Bharadwaj whom you insulted on the CNN IBN show.
I can assure you that if you do so you will go up in the esteem of the people of West Bengal, and indeed the whole country.
From what I could gather during my visits to Kolkata, your Ministers and bureaucrats are afraid to speak out their minds fearlessly before you, and are terrorized by your unpredictable and whimsical behaviour. To say the least, this is a very unhealthy state of affairs, and you will not be able to remain as Chief Minister for long unless you change your ways and become more tolerant.
Kautilya has said in the Arthashastra that a successful ruler is one who appoints good advisers, and listens to their advice. Of course, after listening to their advice it is ultimately for you to take the final decision, but your advisers should feel free to express their opinions fearlessly. In this connection I may mention that Sardar Patel, the first Union Home Minister, told his Secretaries (senior I.C.S. officers ) that they should express their views freely, even if their view is totally different from his own, and he would never take offence. In fact if they do not express their views freely they were of no use to him. This is the way you should also conduct yourself.
It is still not too late for you if you listen to my advice and change your ways. I am your well wisher, and would like you to do well, and in fact, if you remember, I had praised you at one time. But of late you seem to have become increasingly intolerant and whimsical, which is only going to land you in big trouble.
Regards
Justice Katju
Another excellent post Justice Katju. Mamata Banerjee is known for her whimsical approach. I do hope she mends her ways, for better image.
ReplyDeleteSir ,This social network criticism and comments are happened everywhere in India .They have to be arrest almost youths
ReplyDeletesir, u rightly pointed out miss banerjee.. but do you think, given her nature, will she pay heed to such advice. i feel she will take more offence to it rather
ReplyDeleteYou are 100% correct. In response of Mr. Katju she has said - hathi ghure bazar/ kutta bhuke hazar. This lady is a shame for all west-bengal people.

Delete@ Pinaki:
She said "Raja chale bazaar, kutta bhouke hazaar"
Our Bad luck, we got a CM like this
DeleteSorry to differ with you Mr/Ms Anonymous! It's our extreme good luck to see and live with such honest scoundrel!

ReplyDeleteArthashastra was written in a time when Monarchy was the prevailing system of governance. In democracy sometimes the advisers become obstinate and start putting pressure on you to act on their advice. They think they it is only their advice that must be acted upon. We have seen such instances in the past in the case of protests for the passage of the Lokpal Bil. What to do in such cases.

One more filthy part of our politicians have been revealed in an excellent way by a Caliber of this nation. Hats off to you.
ReplyDeleteShe desperately needs to get married! Is there any such 'patriot' who could sacrifice himself for the sake of millions of West Bengal people?
DeleteOne problem I gave seen with every intolerant person is that they tend to believe that they are invincible after getting some kind of a success. What Justice Katju has written has been said by a lot of people.I hope because of his stature this time it will get some extra prominence.

Ms Sudha Singh, I respectfully beg to differ from your opinion. I do not find anything wrong in the use of the words 'whimsical' and 'unpredictable' and they do not seem to be criticizing women in general but specifically point towards the CM. Justice Katju has frankly expressed himself and has chosen the words which are necessary to do so, you should not unnecessarily interpret his statement as pointing to some other issue (about women in general) which he did not intend for it to point to.
DeleteSudhaji, what would you say on Mamata's comment "Raja Chale Bazaar/Kutta Bhoke Hazar"?
DeleteIsn't it demeaning from a woman's point of view too???
Ms. Sudha Singh, you are right. Mamta Banerjee is not whimsical or unpredictable. Her problem is that she is very clever but not intelligent at all. She doesn't have fore-site and always do the things for her party only and refers it for "Ma, Mati, Manush" Probably it will not continue at long run.
Delete"Raja Chale Bazaar/Kutta Bhoke Hazar"....
DeleteKutton ke Rani ka yehi hai bichar!

ReplyDeleteSudhaji, please har baat pe mahila banam purush mat layen. Mamta ek joker ke tarah behave kar rahi hai. Oh jo university ke degree ki bat karti hai waisa university he nahi hai, aur oh bilkul unpredictable aur whimsical hai. Ek mashoor lawyear aur former MLA Mr. Arunava Ghosh(of congress) ka kahna hai power without education hone se aisa he hota hai jo bengal me ho raha hai, aur ap to janti hai, power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely...
ReplyDeleteRespected Sir,
ReplyDeleteI feel no fear to comment against you. Firstly, you alleged the Bengal CM as "whimsical and intolerant". Would you not label yourself as whimsical and intolerant because your conception on the CM changed within a few months? Secondly, West Bengal is passing through a tough time than it had earlier. Law and order of the state is deteriorating and worst is expected in days to come. But you said that you are her well wisher. Let me watch, how much time it would take for you to become a "Mamata-hater".
Sir, I beg your apology for my comment.
Thank you.
@Owl watch: the very fact that you do not fear to comment against Justice Katju showcases the fact that he is not whimsical and intolerant... imagine in contrast the plight of those who had questioned the CM... that exactly is the point which this email tries to put forward. As for law and order, what can you expect in a state where the CM herself goes to a prison to release hooligans who were arrested for playing loud music in front of a cancer hospital????
Delete@ Mrignayni: Well said
Delete@mrignayni: Exactly
Delete@Mrignayani: Nice Reply.

DeleteGood points. And today Supreme Court has sent a notice to W.B. Govt. about the "Cartoon Case" of Mr. Ambikesh Mahapatra, the respected chemistry professor of J.U.
DeleteHe is not supporting, what he likes to say is that our beloved state will be totally ruined if she continues for another six months.

ReplyDeleteYour post is absolutely correct. It is said that "History is created when an Unstoppable Force meets an Immovable Object".She created History but unfortunately her name will not be in the history books for her Deeds. She is surrounded by greedy peoples and she does not have a single human to give her good advice which on the other way round she will not listen. It is high time now for H'onarable C.M. for damage control otherwise T.M.C. will fall in no time.

ReplyDeleteOne can pour water of wisdom into a leaky pot called mamata but what is the use ? She is hell-bent on not getting re-elected
ReplyDeleteSir
ReplyDeleteYour assessment & advise to West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee is absolutely correct & in time. If CM accepts your advice & rectifies herself it will be not only batter for herself but also for west Bengal as a whole.
Looks like everybody started working to make dog's tail straight.
ReplyDeleteIf the DOG ( or Bitch) does not straighten it's tail , very soon it is going to get cut !

DeleteOh my god! Indian democracy proved that DOGS can be ministers and BITCH could become Chief of them!
DeleteDear Sir,
ReplyDeleteYour observation for Mamata is absolutely correct.I really appreciate your letter.I have never seen this kind of ruler any where in India. She is a dictatorship politician. She always plays the game according to the tune of madness. No political ideology. This kind of leader can never sustain for long.People must have freedom to express their opinion and that's should be the pillar of democracy.

I am very much agree with you Sir. It is our constitutional right to freely express our views.
ReplyDeleteWHY CAN'T THE FELLOW MINSTERS AND THE STAFF WITH HER TALK BOLDLY
ReplyDeleteBecause dogs can't talk! She loves her pets so much that she sent them to Loksabha, Rajyasabha besides keeping others in her ministry and party!
Deletethank you sir...it is inspiring to see man of ur stature stand for what all know is right..
ReplyDeleteRespected sir,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all ,I am really appreciate your concern about our state of West Bengal. It is also great pleasure that you are taken the issues of west Bengal more serious than the arrest of 2 reporters after exposing the scam of big steel baron cum politician in North India .
If I am not wrong you praise our CM on the 22/05/2012 when you visit in Kolkata. Now you raise 4 issue 1) Transfer of Damayanti Sen 2) arrest of Sri Siladitya 3) arrest of Prof Mahapatra 4) CNN IBN show.
Just remind you Prof Mahapatra arrested 13 th April Damayanti Sen transfer on 4th April and CNN IBN incident happen on 2O th may 2012. Please see the dates all issues are happen before 22/05/2012.
No my question if you are really concern about these issues why you have prise Ms Mamata Banerjee on 25/05/2012?
Why after six months suddenly you realize those issues are very important?
You mention Mamta Banerjee in Intolerant and whimsical but we feel her main “problem” that she does not represent to INDIA Inc or Corporate India like other goody goody media’s blue eyed boy Politicians . That’s the main problem. She is from a lower middle class family and she represents the “Bharat “not India Inc. like other major politician in India.
Except Shiladitya issue we do not think police had taken any wrong step or either Mamata banerjee had done anything wrong.
As person born and brought up in rural Bengal, I am assuring you Bengal is going in perfectly right direction. After a long battle peoples brought this government into power. We know FDI wala, Corporate Media and few “Mirjafars” does not want this” peoples government “to function.
But Sir, this in Bengal, land of Subhas Chanadra Bose and Vivekanada and I am assuring we,the poor people of west Bengal not let down so easily in front of Corporate media and FDI Walas.
We are proud Mamata Banerjee is our CM. When 99% politicians are Corrupted and looting our motherland and Mamta is fighting for common man.
Vandemataram
He does not SUDDENLY realize...if you read the whole article carefully, he has started with comparing her with Maha CM and asked her to emulate her Maha counterpart. As for the incidents concerned and his change of heart,it is only after the farmer's arrest that everyone including the writer thought enough was enough and criticism flowed, which was well beyond the date you mentioned.
DeleteLike every optimist we also thought that her whims would come to an end and the "minor" past mistakes were let to go away, but.. I request you to kindly read between the lines and not come with chronicled dates only.
As for a person born in Bengal but brought up in various part of this country, believe me we are just making a laughing stock of our-self and our esteemed history by letting her have her way.
She might not be corrupt, but also not an appropriate leader (at least now)
In the words of Kiran Mazumder Shaw: "Mamta is a dangerous, populist demagogue: economically illiterate but politically astute - deadly combo" (Please do n't link corporate and stuff with this comment, think it as that of one learned women over a leader)
Kiran Mazumder Shah is very right on her observations. Mamtaji is pretty dangerous stuff and a law unto herself.

DeleteYou are talking about poor peaples of W.B?
Mamata played dirty politics with the peoples of Singur-Nandigram. They have realized the fact, after 1.5 years. So, now most of them are asking for money instead of getting back their lands. Because they don't have any faith left in their CM.
Bedsides TATA's Nano Project; Infosys, Wipro (Second Campus) did not get land and SEZ facility, so they left W.B. Mamata even does not have any idea, how big these companies are. (15+10) = 25 k engineers could get job in these two companies. Siemens has stopped their production in Kolkata, ABG was kicked out from Haldia. Our C.M. is bzy in organizing Bengal Builds, Bengal Leads and delivering her meaningless lectures. What are the outcomes of all these craps (Bengal Builds, Bengal Leads)?
There is no Environment for building new industries in Bengal.
Being an employee of an IT company, I know how much a fresher suffers to get a project in Kolkata (It is true for any MNP), because there are lac of new projects in Kolkata. Where cities like Bangalore, Pune, Hydrabad, Chennai even Bhubaneswar s are in much better conditions. So we are going out from Kolkata to get better opportunities.
Mamata is literally illiterate...like her blind followers...
It's the joke of the century that : Mamata Banerjee is not corrupt! Soon Bengalis will lose their respect before world if they carry this view further more! Look at her ministers and own family! Even Jindals would be jealous of her fortune she acquired through her pets' name!
DeleteMy very very respected Sir,
ReplyDeleteShe is doing some good jobs also which is not written by media. Today Schools, Hospitals, Offices are not run by trade unions. Today Traffic police controls kolkata, not CITU. Today, rickwala's don't have to pay Rs.500/- per month to any political party (there may be some exception). Please verify the facts.

Respected Sir,
DeleteAs a West Bengal citizen, I am thankful to you for your letter to the W.B.C.M. Had I expressed that openion in West Bengal, I would have been put to Jail without Bail. So, I hope enormoun people of West Bengal would have good/sound sleep on to-day's (29-11-2012) night. But, we are unfortunate, on tomorrow onward, we would see the same picture that has been displayed in your letter dt. 29-11-2012. No change would appear in the West Bengal atmosphere, because we have - "DON'T CARE RAJA,LADY JAI PROKASH" and Madly Government.
Even if she has done some good acts, that does not justify her wrongs.
DeleteI do not think that she did any good thing so far................i think it is worst
DeleteRespected Sudipta,
DeleteMost humbly I have one request to you please verify the facts what you have expressed here then asked other to believe them.
Regards.
Dear Sir, it couldnt have been better worded, or more appropriately put. She is indeed losing all the results of her goodwill for such a small and controlable issue... i do hope she heeds your words
ReplyDeleteSir,
ReplyDeleteI admire your pointed criticism. Lawlessness has reached an extremum in the last few months. Even taxi/autorickshaw drivers or rickshaw pullers have started behaving like hoodlums. Every other day we hear cases of theft, dacoity, murder, molestation etc.The criminals think their patrons are running this government. Most importantly the way this CM trivialises her constitutional obligations is alarming! In short this is a government of an autocrat, for the self-seekers, by the ruffians!

Her own MP Kabir Suman, renowned singer has labelled his fellow partymen as “bribe eaters”. He is now a political castaway. Her own minister says that his fellow travellers are guilty of extortion. Her long-time aide was roughed up day before yesterday by his own party supporters, and the whole ruckus happened in Calcutta University campus ! We hang our heads in shame for we have brought these queer creatures to power.
ReplyDeleteSir one advice 4 u ,please file a ancipatory bail.
ReplyDeleteFor the shake of WB, Mamata should create a adviser post and appoint ex-justice Mr. Katju.
ReplyDeleteWhy that?
DeleteAin't you got Shah Rukh Khan, or whatever that Bollywood idol is called, as your Brand Ambassador?
People of Bengal gave her a fair chance, which, she miserably failed to utilize. She'll pay for her mistakes and she can't complain later. No other better political option left for the people in this state anymore. The worse is yet to come.
ReplyDeleteIt's very cruelest joke of history that Mamata Banerjee belongs to a community which gave birth to innumerable noble personalities still Bengalis choose her!
DeleteBengalis shown that if UP could have Mayabati, Tamilnadu could have Jayalalitha...why they stay behind? So they produced Mamata Banerjee! Hitler+Stalin unitedly couldn't come nearer to her by any measure!
Bengalis need to have such creature!
For the shake of WB, Mamata should create an adviser post and appoint ex-justice Mr. Katju.
ReplyDeleteWell said. I think Mr. Katju had some vested interest which has been spoiled by Didi. That is why now grapes are sour.
Delete...and what is your vested interest to support the wrongdoings?
DeleteMamata is the Biggest Communist out there. No one can change her including herself bcoz she reached upto this position by fighting those CPM Gundas. And while fighting alone all these years she has become one like those. Be it Jyoti Bose or Mamata Banerjee, The common public of Bengal suffered/ will suffer Anyway !!
ReplyDeleteMaa Mati Manus er paglamo...
DeleteHow many yrs we would have to tolerate this F%^k chief minister..
Respected Justice Katju,
ReplyDeleteI am a young Bengali professor based in the US. I have read all your comments and could not agree more with you. I salute you for your brave and uncompromising stand on so many issues of national interest. Just so you know, I, like numerous others who are physically outside the country but whose hearts are in India, stand solidly behind you in your bold initiatives.
warm regards,
PD
Katju is a congress agent. His recent articles are all full of lies, mis representations, mindless drivers. I am a historian who has traveled a lot and studied history for over 23 years. Kattu wrote an articullage entry full of lies that moguls did not destroy much in India and Islamic invasion was not brutal it seems. He is insulting the great Hinduism as well as the people who suffered. Take his articles as full of lies.
ReplyDeleteMamata may be a honest person, true to her heart - a good people's leader. But what she lacks is any form of managerial skills - where she needs to visualize the future and plan to achieve it. West Bengal was a leading state few decades ago, but it hurts to see WB falling much behind compared to other states. The failure is evident in all phases of governance and people's lives. Someone in her council of minsters really needs to stand-up and point out the flaws - and lead towards a constructive dialogue. They can even learn from the other states. The only problem is, will Mamata listen and understand..............
ReplyDeleteI second you, just wanted to add that the main reason of lagging behind day by day is lack of education. Bengalies are known as a thinking community, but the truth is, apart from some exceptions we are no more an intellectual class. The education system is destroyed by the earlier govt., and I don't think people from this govt. can sense and take measure to restore it. Thinking level of the common people has gone down to the bottom, and in my opinion I don't see any glimmer of hope in near future. Only we can hope that the education level of the state will improve, starting from the primary to the highest- without compromising with merit. But we ALL have to act.
DeleteSir
ReplyDeleteLike many people I also feel be cheated to vote this party to power. So many promises but no one is kept. She even curtails our legitimate claims also. No politician of India has made so many of people fool, but that is for one time, next time people will show her the exit door like CPM.
Its been in fashion these days to criticize Ms. Mamata Bannerjee, but those people forget whether they are anywhere near to her achievements to criticize her. We the common people of Bengal have been through Hell in the past regime for over 35 years. We expect anyone who likes to criticize any of her work or her attitude should weigh their own achievement and passion towards people of India before doing so. We know who stood beside us during those awful days, we know who gave us the strength that we can make the change, we know it is none of the criticizers. So please don't get bothered by what she is doing now or by her attitude as we the people of Bengal and Didi have a time tested relationship and we know very well on whom to depend. Thanks—Chanchal Mukherjee,UK
ReplyDeleteMr. katju truly said.now a days we, common people also affried to post own vision in anywhere in website.Ms. mamta banerjee our honbl chief minister should control herself and concentrate to development of west bengal.
ReplyDeleteRespected Justice Katju,
ReplyDeleteI don’t agree with you 100 %. There are several reasons behind it.
1. CPM was governing before Mamata Banerjee. Thus, people loyal to CPM are all over. For example, Prof. Mahapatra was a CPM follower and he ended up getting job at Jadavpore University mostly because of his loyalty to CPM. People who have degree from Harvard University may hardly make at Jadavpore University otherwise. Because they hired only them who were loyal to them or CPM. Whatever he did regarding cartoons is totally to show his loyalty to CPM. Whatever he has been doing now could be to utilize the situation for future purpose. What I meant by that is that he could be MLA or MP in future if he keeps showing his loyalty?
2.Mamata Banerjee has to be strict in order to deal with people like him who are everywhere in west Bengal.
3.It may be true that leaders may be afraid to speak up in front of her. But most of them are power hungry. Most trinamool leaders are no different from Indian politicians who and whose relatives and friends make immensely while they are in power except Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee has to be really strict to keep the party. The congress party is WB is nothing. There are many fractions. There are 2-3 leaders who try to show up before TV. They need to say something against Mamata Banerjee to be close to Congress high commended especially at this time.
Lastly I agree with you however in some cases where she made big blunders like incident happened in case of Damyanti Sen. That is part and parcel of life as human beings are prone of making mistakes. Remember, she removed left from power what was sounded impossible before election. I believe that small mistakes she has had committed so far will surely be corrected in near future. I am sure about the fact that she is much smarter than that.
somu Banerjee
I understood the part where you said being hired as a professor for supporting CPM was bad. We, people of Bengal sincerely believed we would see a change in that attitude. Unfortunately, we haven't been blessed yet. Goons like Arabul Islam are being honored as a member of governing body of colleges. And then you lost me in the comment: "Mamata Banerjee has to be strict in order to deal with people like him who are everywhere in west Bengal". So, being a CPIM supporter is now considered as a crime in modern Bengal? If you can criticize other politicians, what's wrong with Dr. Mahapatra? Such political intolerance is unprecedented among the Bengal intelligentsia. Wait, did I say "unprecedented"? Probably I am wrong. We have seen this before. This is among the many things we wanted to change. Alas, everything changes in world, except for WB's political culture.
DeleteTHANKS MR.KATJU.AT LAST U ALSO SAY TRUTH.IF WE HAVE POWER TO SUSPEND ANY CHIFE MINISTER ,WE WILL THEN AND THEN SUSPEND THIS BUSTED CHIF MINISTER.........OK.
ReplyDeleteThanks Justice Katju, you have given a beautiful advice to our honourable chief minister, but do you know she is completely insane ??
ReplyDeleteShe needs not your advice but a psychiatrist..
So pls write a letter to her mentioning some renowned psychiatrist consultant in India.
you can't tie a knot when snake bites your head!
DeleteBengalis choose their own destiny: Mamata Banerjee!
AT LAST someone speaks the minds of the people...............
ReplyDeleteWe the people of BENGAL are terrorized to speak anything against the W.B. GOVT. as we indeed fear that we would be rendered the same fate as Shiladitaya.......because of a FASCIST GOVT.
lots of bengali's are critcising mamata on fb,twitter, news sites daily, sometimes using filthy language. and mamata is arresting them all..? is this the scenario? don't be cynic
DeleteHi Justice Katju,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the blog which has aptly resonated the sense of discontent among the people of Bengal, and when I mean people of Bengal, I consider both the rural and urban population.
You had said earlier that Mamata is an honest politician. I am not sure if you hinted at her embodiment of personal integrity that she and her followers project. However, in my views, she might be an honest politician but definitely not politically honest.
Let's take the example of Amit Mitra. When he was projected as a potential finance minister prior to the election, the urban population had a very high expectation given Mitra's track record and credibility as the Chairman of FICCI and his known views on issues like SEZ and FDI. To me, this had been a key feature in making Mamata acceptable to certain section of the urban population with a hope that she is willing to follow a flexible approach in her economic vision. But today, when I see Amit Mitra reduced to a mere spectator in the government with almost no power to influence the chief minister with the views that he has been practicing till he became a Finance Minister, I do not see it as a tragedy with Mitra, but a tragedy with people like us who unfortunately form a very small portion of the Chief Minister's Voting Target Customer. The Chief Minister in her cry for "Ma Mati Manush" can easily survive giving us a damn and can continue to remain in power. But then, it would have been an HONEST call from her part had she projected an orthodox economist instead of Mitra, because that would have matched perfectly with her and the party's (?) manifesto. It is very much like the business houses which promises all kinds of lucrative offers to the customer before winning the bid and then turning a blind eye to those sections which do not generate revenue. If you brand the business house as dishonest then, how come Mamata becomes an honest politician? Personal integrity is definitely a "necessary condition" but NOT a "sufficient condition" to be an honest politician. And even today, there are millions of people who are fit to satisfy this necessary condition, but then can we expect to see each one of them in the CM's chair? Bengal has never lacked politicians whose personal integrity is beyond question. Buddhadeb Bhattacharya lives in a two bedroom modest apartment, Biman Bose still lives in the Alimuddin Street Party Office, so did Pramod Dasgupta. But the mediocrity in their vision and lack of proper implementation is something Bengal has never questioned or seriously introspected. Mamata is just an autrocratic version of the same sterile lineage of mediocrity , which Bengal is compelled to choose time and again, as alternatives are practically nil.
Why have you put your comment as anonymous. I agree with your views to some extent. What's your name?
DeleteFirst off, I want to make it clear that I am politically un-biased person who have left India 8 years ago – so neither I vote nor I have rights to elect anybody in India anymore, I am mere an observer and all my comments here are solely based on my own observation and it is in all respect my very own opinion…
ReplyDeleteBy far, our own state, West Bengal has become completely lawless society – let’s be honest to accept it. CPI-M gets the major credit for this rare fit and now TMC has started to prove that it is capable of taking this rare fit into next level of success, facilitated by our own beloved leader Ms. Mamta Banerjee, who often without much insight quotes “…government of the people, by the people, for the people”.
My humble questions to her, if she believes that government is for the people – why then people are getting harassed by stamping them as Maoist when they ask legitimate questions? The situation of poor farmer of Singur is well known – what happens to her promise of good governance for the people? Why an eminent leader like Shobhandeb Banerjee got harassed, why an efficient police officer like Damyanti Sen was victimized for not following her wish – is it an example of governance by the people? The list goes on and on…
It’s time to change for good reason or you will be perished by the wish of people – history never forgives!!!
You have spoken absolutely right, sir.Mamata has changed a lot.She and her party leaders cannot tolerate slightest of criticisms. Moreover, there are some yesman newschannels who always dance to the tunes of TMC.They are continously providing wrong news about d state politics. The lower ladder TMC leaders have gone out and out corrupt. They are creating a terrorising environment.Even if such instances of misdeed committed by her party-workers are brought into her attention, she denies it instantly, gives d concerned cleanchit and in turn accuses the complainant. This is not fare for democracy. There is a tendency of the newschannels still to compare with the Left regime. But,to me Left rule is gone;they had been punished for their wrong-doings.There is no use of comparison with the present regime.Evaluation should be on the present, not on the past.
ReplyDeleteMamata Banerjee should also apologise to the people of Bengal for not allowing to run Nano project. It made Bengal backstep 10 years more atleast.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you ..
ReplyDeleteThe big question is how do we get rid of such polical leaders. They are plague for the society. I am deeply hurt with her comments "Raja chale...". What is her evaluation of common people and people her own party? If you draw and analogy : People who blindly supports her are all 'blue-blooded' and anybody critisizing or trying to pin-point her short-commings belong cannine family ? I am sure people of Bengal must be cursing themselves for bringing such a power to rule over them. It was sheer desperateness to get rid of CPIM govt. and lack of alternative in Bengal that has brought her from rags-to-riches.
ReplyDeleteAfter all these high drama in the centre now TMC is politically untouchable - nobody gives a damn to TMC anymore nobody cares what TMC leaders have to say.
Now, both willing and un-willing farmers of 'Singur' are fed up , becuase both of them are starving. One deprived of job and another deprived of land.
Youths are unemployed and asking for random money from business-men , promoters and even farmers.
Women are being insulted, raped and murdered.
Hospitals are reporting crib deaths.
Is this the change bengal wanted ?
Is this the future we are going to give to our next generation.
Bengali's need to start thinking of alternative outside TMC and definitely outside CPI(M).
Is there any other alternative? congress is the most corrupt party, khuni adhir, deepa..era ? Bjp? amar mone hoy abp group jokhon theke mamatar against e propaganda shuru korlo(after park street) tarpor thekei mamata kichuta disbalanced hoye galo. na hole prothom dike to bhaloi kaj korchilo
DeleteDear Mr Katju,
ReplyDeleteforgive me if I speak without doing my homework on the subject, and with no legal knowledge whatsoever, except for the fact that many leaders in our country have spoken volumes about the importance of the "right to free speech" in any healthy democracy.Yet,these incidents only make you wonder if those in power really want the people to speak out their minds. There was an incident in UP where a student criticized Mayawati in his examination paper, and was arrested and roughed up for the same. I'm sure there must be many more incidents that sipped under the radar of the media.
My only query here is,shouldn't action be taken against those who lodged the complaint?Aren't they the ones who need to be discouraged from misusing the law to meet their personal gains?
From the little knowledge I have of history,it seems clear to me that Maharashtra is slowly turning into a fascist state.
Respected Sir,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, thank you very much for publish your article so publicly. As a common man, nobody can see his own state ruined in front of him. I am a young engineer passed out from a renowned university and now employed in a pvt company in Chennai. As an educated citizen,I don't feel there will be any improvement in this TMC era.Because most of the leaders and ministers are illiterate and they are doing nothing by licking our CM's feet. Each and every person should understand that, wearing a dirty and old saree does not mean that our CM is aside common pple but that is only to hide other unwanted stuff.
MAY GOD REST YOU IN PEACE,MAMATA...
it's not that she is not trying to do good..she has brought peace to junglemahal,darjeeling...political violence decreased considerably
DeleteIn this land of that naked king !! thank you sir for coming up as the child who pointed out the truth
ReplyDeleteSir,
ReplyDeleteIn response to your letter CM of WB replied below dialogue:
"Raja Chale Bazaar to Kutta bhuke hazar"... Being a bengali we are very much hurt and ashamed by our CMs respond.
Miss Banerjee is shame for Bengal as well as Bengalis..
Well Mr. Firdous, did you ever notice who identify 'Kutta'?
DeleteList of Pedigree Dogs in Mamata Banerjee's stable...Derek O'brien, Subrata Mukherjee,Mukul Roy, Madan Mitra, Partha Chatterjee, Firhad Hakim...
How can she be wrong to identify barking of dog?
Dear Justice Katju,
ReplyDeleteWhere were you when cpim killed innocent villagers in Netai? You never protested when one person was arrested for comments against chidambaram's son. Congress leaders, suave , polite and educated are the criminals destroying our country and you never speak against them , but you are always on toe to criticise cm's WHO ARE REALLY WORKING HARD, MODI,NITISH AND MAMATA
Now apply IT act 66A on Katju. Nice article. If Mamta will take on the critics in a positive way there is a lot of scope of improvement and will be remembered for long time as a Manuser' CM else will be lost on some paragraph in some pages of an old book.
ReplyDeleteDEAR JUSTICE KATJU ,
ReplyDeleteMamata as per as i know is a warm human being. As she had to fight one brutal party , she has become rough in manners but she is basically a good human being...She is the only cm who can go to junglemahal in scorching summer heat , refusing to attend time magazine's award giving ceremony
Respected Sir,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this nice article.
Respected Sir,
DeleteThanks a lot for speaking the minds of the common people of W.B. At least someone has said the truest words to this intolerant, whimsical, indiscreet, improvident C.M. of W.B. I also wish to explain one thing very clearly, that, to criticize the T.M.C. supremo, does not necessarily imply to support the oppositions of T.M.C., but, if someone on the highest power of a state does things so childlike, imprudent and whimsical, he/she must be criticized from a neutral view-point either.
Lastly, I will have to post this anonymously, as now is the situation, when, you may be in Jail for even a single 'click' on Like button of Facebook. But i do feel ashamed for being bound to keep my name secret, for the suppression of voice of democracy.
Sir,
ReplyDeleteMamata has transformed junglemahal ...She has big dreams, but she is not getting help..media started propaganda against her coz she dared to take on congress...Abp group, the shameless dalals of congress started this and english media followed suit..but as a resident of wb i assure you she is doing good.
Thanks Sir for publishing your letter for well being of Bengal. Mamata Banerjee should also apologise to the people of Bengal for not allowing to run Nano project. It made Bengal backstep 10 years more atleast and the cultivator of Singur also did not get money and their land back...
ReplyDeleteMR. Katju ... You have guts to criticize Mamta several times... But do you have guts to criticize Sonia, P Chidambaram? IN Mumbai, how many people got arrested because of cartoon, facebook comments, Have you criticized Sonia because of that? Why not criticized Sonia? She is the head of Congress party and Maharashtra Govt runs by Congress right? Do you have guts to criticize P Chidambaram ? person is arrested due to taking photos of P Chidambaram and person is arrested due to tweeting his son... Where is your guts now to criticize P Chidambaram like you do in case of Mamta?? If you want to be brave, criticized both soft and hard target !!
ReplyDeleteDear Justice Katju
ReplyDeleteMamata has a loving and caring heart , She is never a butcher .if you tell her with love , she will understand, but if you shame an woman publicly, she will be offended
Dear Sir,
ReplyDeleteI do not belong to any political party. I just go through the news article in ABP about your letter to Mamata Banerjee. I like to thank you, that you bring the concern areas to public. As a WB residence I did not find any improvement after election. In some areas situation gets worst. So once again thanking you that at least people will start thinking.
You have only guts to take on Mamta, a soft target...Now taken on Sonia or P C ....I want to see how brave u r !! btw... WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU WHEN CPM WAS DEMOLISHING DEMOCRACY OF WB on 2009? were u inside of cave?
ReplyDeleteIt is absolute truth that The West Bengal Government is a one lady show and which is a danger to our democracy.
ReplyDelete"Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely"
Stop your non-sense work on politics... Do your own job. Your media is taking bribe to publish/not to publish reports.... YOU ARE SITTING THERE BLIND...TOO AFRAID TO TAKE ON CORPORATES?????
ReplyDeletewhy he will stop talking? This is the reality of west bengal now. It's really shameful that West Bengal chief minister is so bad. She has no dignity and no personality at all.
DeleteWhy the fu** He cant write letters to Maharashtra CM and Sonia b*** and PC and his son like he does to Mamta? because Mamta cant speak English, dont make up, talk like beggers, she has no dignity and no personality but others have?? F F ..
DeleteWho said Mamata can't speak English? She and her "Gorment" have shown us a new Accent of English. Thanks didi..
DeleteRespected Sir,
ReplyDeleteIt is good to see that a voice as indomitable as yours has spoken out at last against such condemnabe acts of our new CM. Her intolerance towards any form of criticism that you have revealed through your open letter is indeed a cause of concern for the multitude . Kudos to you for speaking out clearly and bravely what many of the Bengali multitude have not expressed in sheer fear.
Jai Hind.
ReplyDeleteBengal did not see industries for a long time..people elected TMC for that..so that new industries will grow up..people will get job...IT industries will be flourished...but in spite o flourishing IT industry this GOVT. did not help INFOSYS to start their maiden campus in West bengal...so many young engineering students were optimistic for that...but Govt couldn't get it through...Thanks Mr.Katju for your letter...if by reading the letter any help can be done in Bengal..
Dear katju
ReplyDeletewhere were you when hariana govt transferred ashok khemka for probing robert vadra's deals? you never criticized that
Respected Sir;
ReplyDeletein my personal opinion you just spoke our mind.thanks a lot for this effort.unfortunately our hon'ble CM is a tyrant;who has no respect for public opinion.i still personally believe she had a good vision.but she has no idea of balancing things.we all should update ourselves considering the current affairs.we all should learn to accept our mistakes.there are 3 steps for accepting our mistakes.
1.i am sorry
2.it was my mistake
n the most importantly
3.how can i get it right
n these TMC leaders has a tendency of putting their words into peoples mouth.they treat police officials like their servants.they call them on stage n force them to say that everything is running smoothly.vandalism is the main motto of this govt.they r just putting some real bad tastes in our mouths.
but the most unfortunate thing is we dont have any matured substitutes.
lots of bengali's are critcising mamata on fb,twitter, news sites daily, sometimes using filthy language. and mamata is arresting them all..? is this the scenario?
ReplyDeleteyes this is the scenario.... you are correct from all points
Deletekatju
ReplyDeleteplease criticize PM for not probing robert vadra's deals
NO one has voted into power permanently. If Mamta does anything which people of bengal dont link, they wont vote for her. You DONT NEED TO WORRY and YOU DONT NEED TO GIVE HER ADVISE TO STAY IN POWER. Mind your own business and control your media which takes money to show/not to show reports. Never seen dumb person like you !! How u became Justice I doubt that !!

Dear Katju,
ReplyDeleteYour letter is extremely biased and politically motivated. First of all I want to say that I am a professor of an IIT. Obviously you understand my earning does not depend on pleasing political leader. What I want to mean that by writing that I don't want to satisfy anyone. Now I will justify my first line in the following way.
1. When you criticize someone for betterment, the criticism should be in a constructive way that means you should also appreciate or mention few of the words on good efforts put by anyone. Her effort to bring normalcy in Janglemohal deserves appreciation. Developmental work in the villages are taking a lot of momentum. You have closed your eyes intentionally.
2. The case of Ambikesh Mahapatra happened long back, even the other two incidents but you felt this is the perfect time as she has withdrawn support from Congress Government.
3. My request to you don't try to do politics just by showing your face of Ex-justice or as an journalist. We welcome you in the politics. Following "Anna" is not easy without having any good motive.
4. There is an extremely band trend of the news channel in the recent days to criticize the Government by telecasting even the false news to keep their TRP high. Don't write something just to get temporary appreciation.
Hoping to have your opinion on FDI, and Black money.
Best regards
Please try to understand the true fact that a person's good acts can never be a justification to their wrongs so do not talk about appreciation...where deemed fit, it shall be given...Considering that you are an IIT professor, I respectfully state that such wisdom is expected from you but it is a pity that you actually believe that a man of as high a stature as Justice Katju needs to write something provoking to 'get temporary appreciation' ....and for the record, referring to your 4th point, 'band' and 'bad' are not the same....
DeleteIt should be bad not band. I have never justified the wrong doing by good acts. You have misunderstood. I wanted to mean the person of such stature should not be biased. Read Nirupam Dutta's blog just below, will understand what I intended to say.
DeleteYOU DONT NEED TO GIVE HER ADVISE HOW TO STAY IN POWER....SHE DIDN'T NEED IT BEFORE...NEITHER NEED IT NOW....BENGAL PEOPLE WILL DECIDED....STOP YOUR BUL*** TALKS AND OIL YOUR OWN MACHINE.
ReplyDeleteYou show the path to all educated people specially the young educated people that how to raise voice..There is a poem of Nirendranath Chakraborty named "Ulanga Raja", Thank you sir for remined me this poem.
Deletesorry i want to ad that i am not a cpim worker.
DeleteWOW...ofcourse show us path..but why showing path to selective people? Why not all?? Why the f*** he cant talk against Maharasra CM , Sonia b***, PC and his Son like he does in case of Mamta?? His b*** fall off?? or is he TOO educated to show path to powerful people?? I thought Educated people show paths to uneducated without making any discrimination !! Why show path to selective people?? HUA?? I am not sorry to ad that I AM MEDIA HATER AND CONGRESS HATER AND BJP HATER AND SP HATER AND BSP HATER AND TMC HATER ..... I AM AAP WORKER. F F .
DeleteLockerz Invitation is a pure and proper example of TMC supporter. Uncivilized people who can not speak without slang. Only such people supports that type of CM Mamata Banarjee.
DeleteUncivilized my foot ... IT IS FREE INDIA... I WILL TALK THE WAY I WANT... WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO JUDGE ME??? YOU EDUCATED ILLITERATE ... THAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH BENGAL... YOU CRITICIZED TMC, YOU ARE PAKKA CPM, YOU CRITICIZED CPM, YOU ARE PAKKA TMC... THE WHOLE COUNTRY HAS GOT THIS DAMN Mentality ..... MOVE ON..TALK ON FACTS AND ISSUES...with logic. I USED THERE A LOGIC. YOU DONT SEE IT...I USED THERE FEW BAD LANG, YOU SEE IT...
DeleteI would like to stay in Kolkata rather than her London.
DeleteI agree with you sir even Mamta apolizes now and take appropriate action. She should not feel shy for that, we hope see will soon act on your advice.
ReplyDeleteI am waiting for NEXT MLA POLL in Bengal.
ReplyDeleteDear Justice Katju,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for freely articulating your views in the public. You intend to act as a safety valve on behalf of civil society which is very good. Having said that, the question that immediately comes to my mind is: is the safety valve working properly and more than that is it working in an unbiased manner?
Pardon me for raising doubts about the efficacy of your safety valve so prematurely but certain actions of yours in the public have forced that. On 22nd of May, 2012 you have been generous in praising Ms Mamata Banerjee. Before the just mentioned date, the CNN-IBN incident, carton incident on Facebook, and transfer of Ms Damayanti Sen, IPS had already occurred. As the Chairman of Press Council and as a safety valve, you must have been aware of these incidents. Yet you praised Ms Banerjee. However, on 29th of November, 2012, you in an open letter criticised her on these very same issues which definitely raises questions about your safety valve role.
You have been critical in your position as Chairman of Press Council of India regarding whimsical and intolerant nature of Ms Banerjee. But I am again forced to raise questions regarding the efficacy of your safety valve when you have been remarkably silent regarding the intolerant and arrogant approach of the Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh in his dealings with the opposition, unaccounted money in foreign banks ,CAG official Mr Vinod Rai and with respect to serious corruption charges against his government be it allocation of coal blocks, 2G spectrum, Commonwealth games, deliberate and one sided action in allowing FDI in retail without any concern about its effects on millions of jobs, deliberate action in removing subsidies on fertilizers, diesel and cooking gas causing irreversible damage to the livelihoods of millions of poor farmers who are getting worse as the days go by and millions of lower-middle and middle class families who have know been kicked straight on their stomachs. You have also been remarkably silent when the Congress leaders were deliberate and arrogant in their speeches castigating an octogenarian like Mr Anna Hazare and Mr Arvind Kejriwal. You have been silent when a Congress MP from Haryana who is also a well known industrialist openly supports murderous khap panchayats, when Haryana government (run by Congress) does nothing to stop khap panchayats, when an IAS officer is transferred just when he finds evidence against Mr Robert Wadhera, son-in-law of Ms Sonia Gandhi in land scam case.
As you advise Ms Mamata Banerjee to be more sound and tolerant and careful in her actions failing which you fear that she cannot continue even as a politician leave alone as Chief Minister will you, in the same spirit kindly come out clearly in the public as to why you have been silent on similar incidents of political intolerance during the same period both at the centre and in the states? As a public servant and definitely as a safety valve, you definitely owe us an explanation and we will not rest and keep on reminding you regularly if not daily in whatever means and mediums that are possible in the public till you have made yourself clear.

Sir,
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with you. Ms. Mamata Banerjee is that type of person who is not ready to hear anything againt her or her party.
We hope Ms. Banerjee will follow your opinion as this will help her to overcome from her dictatorship and rule the county in a proper way.

Dear Justice Katju:
ReplyDeletePlease accept my thanks for your letter to Mamata Banerjee. In response to your letter Ms. Banerjee has commented "Raja chale Bazar, Kutta bhuke hazar." Her distasteful and immature comment is not actually surprising, but point to be noted that she shamelessly claims herself as the king, which she in particular is not. She is the chief minister serving the people of Bengal (who are supposed to be the actual kings). Unfortunately she and most of the political leaders of India have completely forgotten that they are mere public servants serving for the betterment of common ordinary people of the country.
Thanks and regards,

The political leadership in West Bengal, suffering from megalomania, is prone to turning a deaf ear to good advice. The more they do so the faster they will loose their foothold.
ReplyDeleteSir,
ReplyDeleteactually our CM is started fearing her own shadow.
Respected Justice Katju, I would like to thank you for your bold remarks. However, your good advice will certainly fall in deaf ears. Politicians ,across the world, has long ceased to heed good advise and remain vigilant about their deeds. The problem is we elect our Parliament and Prime Ministers or Presidents in a completely flawed manner. Election can not be won by money and muscle power, but also otherwise phony, if not illegal, manner. And one of these manners is rabble rousing, the way Hitler came to power in Germany. We live in a political settings in which Parties are elected on certain issues but pretend to assume the mandate of taking any decision. So effectively, we are living in a 'democratic tyranny'. I think we need a overhaul of our political system. Incentives to join politics should reduced as much as possible, governments should founded on the basis of issues not numbers, post-electoral alliance should be proscribed, all government agencies should be made constitutional bodies, negative voting should be initiated so that corrupt politicians can be scared away, No political party should be allowed to form if its manifesto can be proved distinct from those of others, if elected no governments should be allowed to act beyond what their manifesto suggests.

Amazingly true blog and expected reaction of the public and its a shame Mamata stands on threshold where once CPM stood !!
ReplyDeleteEarlier there was "Party" dictate and now " Mamata" dictate....as rightly pointed TMC leaders and TMC MP and MLS starts their statement" Under the leadership of Didi...."!
Once being journalist of Bengal I will appeal Mamta should calm and think what CPM had done ....she is following the same footsteps.....no knows better than HER where they lead...!
Dear Justice Katju,
ReplyDeleteNews has been circulating through a leading Bengali daily that your sudden outburst against Ms Mamata Banerjee is probably due to the fact that you have been infuriated over her for not attending your Kolkata Press Club meet last Sunday at 15:00 after you had send instructions to Ms Nandini Chakraborty, Secretary, State Information & Cultural Affairs Department at 13:30 hours on the same day to ask Ms Mamata Banerjee to attend your press meet which was totally unscheduled. Can you explain under what powers can you summon the Chief Minister of the state unscheduled and that also just to attend your press club meet? Isn't it also a bad example of intolerant, arrogant and whimsical attitude on your part of which you have accused Ms Mamata Banerjee just last night in the public. You need to answer and we will keep on reminding you daily till you answer this.
Nirupam Datta
Please understand the difference between a "Summons" and an "Invitation"....Agreeing to the fact that calling the CM may have been unscheduled but I believe that Justice Katju would have sent an invitation and not a 'summons'. Being a law student, I can tell you that there is a very deep meaning to the word 'summons' in the field of law which is totally different from how you use this word in a general sense so there has been no 'summons' as such here.
DeleteYou wanted an answer and you got it...
Dear Rachit,
DeleteI remember that I asked for reply from Justice Katju and not from you. By the way, the way Justice Katju asked Chief Minister to be present through Ms Nandini Chakraborty at such a short notice sounds more of a summon and less of an invitation because as a student whether of law or not you should know that an invitation is sent well in advance of the scheduled event to allow the invited person to make it part of his/her schedule more so when the person concerned is the head of the government of a state. Only if the matter is of urgent and very critical nature a person is called at a short notice of 90 minutes and that is nothing less than that of a summon. And the pres meet of Katju last Sunday was nothing of that nature . Had he been so eager to invite Chief Minister he should have sent invitation to the CM using his good offices to allow her to say either yes/no to it.As a law student you should at least know the difference between an invitation for an event and a call equivalent to summon.
Nirupam Datta
Dear Rachit,
DeleteBy the way, this is not a legal forum but a personal blog to share views. If you are confused on this, then I pity you. I have also consulted the Oxford dictionary regarding the usage of my words "summon" which means to call or to order to something for example meeting which is totally different from the meaning of "summons" that you have used. Please re-read and you will find that in my reply to Justice Katju I have used the word "summon(ed)" and not "summons". Please read the case briefings properly in future before you proceed to argue.
Nirupam Datta
Dear Mr. Dutta,
DeleteLets come on a point by point basis to the logic as proposed by you,
First you mentioned that there is news circulating in newspapers about the cause of Mr. katju's outburst. And you have based your argument on the premise. But how robust is the hypothesis in itself?Newspapers are meant to give information, not pass on judgement. It is for us to decide which part to take and which to negate. So the premise itself seems illogical.
Secondly, by your own definition of summon as taken from oxford dictionary mentions it as an "order" as respect to invitation. I hope all of us understand the slight nuances that exist in both words.
3. Even if for an instance we take that Mr. Katju's outburst is because of the reason as stated by you, does it make her less gullible? I believe we are missing the whole point. We should be more concerned about our CM than others.
Since it is in open forum, I just gave my views with respect to your comments. It is not a reply. May be the concerned person will take care of that. Correct me, if I am wrong.
Thanks
When you agree to the fact that the word summon means to order or call, please think over why you chose to use that word because an 'invitation' can never be considered to be equivalent to an 'order', the mere fact that an invitation is given at a very short notice does not make it an order...further I never stated you asked a reply from anybody else than Justice Katju so kindly do not interpret my acts to be more than they actually are...and also...I never stated that you have actually used the word 'summons' here... also, considering that you agree that this is not a legal forum, I wonder why you chose to ask 'under what powers' was the call made because by that you shall be interpreted to mean that you asked as to what was the law that granted the power to make the call....had you simply used these words 'why did you summon ?' I would have agreed that you used the word 'summon' in a general sense but coupling that word with the phrase 'under what powers' makes your statement to mean something totally different...
DeleteDear Anonymous,
DeleteIf you correctly recall that Mr Katju's comments in his open letter are all based on the information that he has gathered from his sources during his tour of Kolkata. Then going by your argument, shouldn't it be equally applicable to Justice Katju's comments that how robust is that hypothesis or for that matter how reliable are those sources? And going by your logic why is it illogical to base my arguments on the premise of circulated news in a daily; if you think that it is illogical then what is logical - to blindly accept what Justice Katju is saying or for that what media houses like ABP, NDTV are saying and shut out to any other sources of news just because they do not satisfy your whims. Sorry Anonymous but I must say that if you are really concerned about CM then keep your senses open to all sources not just to some particular sources- that is also equally illogical that you have opined about me.When you are rebuking somebody in the public then you should also demonstrate a credible moral standing otherwise you will lose your face. And that's what is happening to Katju as outbirsts against his recent comments on Nitish Kumar will show --you can google and verify it just don't believe me blindly.
Nirupam Datta
Dear Rachit,
DeleteIf I go by your logic of the last sentence then nobody can question anything even if that person is the leader of the opposition because going by what you have said we can only use such words in legal community or inside courts - we cannot use such words to question the scope and limitations of the authority of any body whether an individual or a government or a regulatory body or legislature or executive- we cannot discuss such things in our day to day discussions. Well if that legally bound democracy implies then I have nothing more to say. By the way in your first reply you yourself stated that "You wanted an answer and you got it" and when I questioned that then you say that "I never stated you asked a reply from anybody else than Justice Katju so kindly do not interpret my acts to be more than they actually are..." Do you have anything to say on this? You yourself volunteer to answer my question and when questioned on that you defend that you did not mean it!
Nirupam Datta
It seems to me that your interpretation about words is different than mine so lets not debate anymore on that...Since I am really not an undisputable authority and probably you aren't either so its pointless to argue about whose interpretation is correct and I would refuse to rule out the possibility that I am absolutely wrong while you totally correct or vice versa for that matter....and regarding me answering...consider both the statements of mine quoted by you in your last reply and if you think of them collectively, then you shall understand that what I meant to say is that you did ask for reply from Justice Katju but you also did not state that it would be wrong if somebody else replied to you and once somebody (one or more person irrespective of whether it includes me or not) does answer then it may not be really necessary for you to keep pressing Justice Katju for an answer...To what I say hereby, you may reply saying that I am nobody to judge what is necessary for you or how you should feel which I totally agree to by the way but again this is a matter of giving an opinion to which you may rightfully wish to disagree but that cannot, with a certainty, prove as to which one of us is correct....
DeleteWhere the hell were you when CPM was doing mass murders in Bengal ?? Were you in a cave???? Where is your blog then??? HUA??? Stupid EDUCATED people.
ReplyDeleteYou should be shamed that your Media has doing extortion and you are sitting there watching..and running your mouth against soft targets instead of controlling your media 1st for which you are appointed !!
ReplyDeleteDear sir,
ReplyDeleteWith respect to you I am writing this.Today you have mailed a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Ms.Mamata Banerjee. You criticized her in your letter. You said she is not able politician, she is arrogant, other
cabinet ministers and bureaucrats are afraid of her.Going through your letter I think I have something to say to you. After a long 34 years a political change come to West Bengal.Communist party ruled for a long time a turn the state into graveyards.Ms. Mamata Banerjee is the only politician who single handedly turn the political scenario .She also make the chance for Congress and other antiCPIM force to unite and get a political ground. She has the right to be arrogant. In CPIM tenure when then Chief Minister Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharya arrogantly declare"we 235, they are 35",then I think you never sent a letter to Chief Minister. Was not that arrogant?
You quoted Kautilya from Arthashastra ,"a successful ruler is one who appoints good advisers, and listens to their advice".In Arthashastra it is also wriiten that ruler should hold the situation with iron fist, continuously monitor ministers and bureaucrats to prevent chaos in state.Mamta Banerjee do the same.A big political change comes with many social disturbances ruler should action firmly .Chaos made by intentionally, must be treated toughly.Censorship is not new word in West Bengal ,in left tenure so many cinema. play were banned. Many were arrested. So the case of Mr. Ambikesh Mahapatra doesn't indicate any thing alarming, yes administration should investigate properly and then take action. The behaviour of Mamata Banerjee is very respectful to his bureaucrats. If bureaucrats are afraid of him then she can't call administrative meetings so
frequently. No Chief Minister before Mamata banerjee discuss the policies with officers so frequently. She is the only CM who visits to districts so many times. There she also meets with local administrator. So many corruption cases are emerging every day in country, then you never protest and sent letter to Prime Minister of India.Mamata Banerjee is the most transparent politician in recent time.No one has an allegations against
Mamata Banerjee.
Do not mean anything wrong,I am a graduate student. I have limited knowledge infront of your vast knowledge. So if iI hurt you I am sorry.
With Regards,
Surojit Chattopadhyay.
Ambikesh Mahapatra's case fall under sec 66A of IT ACT 2000 because He SENT 'malicious' emails to other people with ill will and malicious intention to cause annoyance. The IT ACT 2000 is not legislated by Mamta !! It was legislated by Central Govt. Now, if police executes laws that are placed in books, Why the hell Police is guilty?? If there is any problem in the laws, It is the duty of the Court to judge it. How the hell police can judge a law whether it is constitutional or constitutional !! It is the duty of the police to execute Laws that are legislated.
DeleteSuppose, someone sending me email with malicious intention with malicious contents and I report it to police, Police arrests the Email sender...under a Central Act, and Media starts shutting "look ITS MAMTA PUT THESE PEOPLE BEHIND BARS" ... Is it correct interpretation of an incident???????????
She has made a golden chance for anti left forces to unite. She single handedly do this.
DeleteShe has made a golden chance for anti left forces to unite. She single handedly do this.
DeleteSurojit, are you from TMC?
DeleteI think what current regime is doing a replica of what earlier regime did and I've to say that, in some cases, it's worse. So, for people of bengal, there is no change (paribartan) for good, only for bad.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any CM who talks so much and most of these are rubbish. Cheap talk. She could identify a maoist in a student or a farmer; she could identify within no time without any investigation whether a case (however grace it's) is genuine or false; she has the technical skill to identify whether a cartton is super-imposed (or super-composed, in her dictionary).
I think people world over pity us that we, people of west bengal, land ourselves from a misrule of 34 years to a bugger mess and no end is in sight!
I think the minimum we can do is change the regime every 5 years, if this trend continues.
correct..........
DeleteHello Sir,
ReplyDeleteYou have all the right to criticise West Bengal's Chief Minister. You have the right to advise her. But then you are putting up the fact that West bengal is under horrible condition and Mamata Banerjee can't be CM for too long!
As you are the Chairman of Press council of India, I hope beside reading ABP, you have read India Today's State of States Survey! Where West Bengal is at 6th place this year compare to 17th last year! Among that incredible improvement has happened in Governance. West Bengal is at 2nd Place compare to the 10th last year! And in Education West Bengal is up at 3rd position compare to 17th last year! I hope this is called Improvement! And if there is this kind of improvement of our state, I personally is very much ready to have "whimsical" and "unpredictable". Ms. Mamata Banerjee as my Chief Minister. For your kind information, large amount of people have voted her keeping in mind of her attitude, as she has not changed a bit in last 15 years! She is same - Our Didi, Our Head Mistress and now Our Chief Minister! We common people always find her beside us when we are in trouble! We never find you in last 34 years, or posting a Blog like this, when West Bengal was in serious trouble! We are glad to have Mamata Banerjee as our Chief Minister.
Thanking You
Your Admirer
Souvik
People to immediately decide what they think of this PARIBARTAN, independent of what Justice Katju has said/written. They should decide fast as there will be the panchayat elections in WB in few months time from now. There are lot of good things in her and also some not so good. But, we must be patient and wait & watch for some more time
ReplyDeleteKudos for the excellent and most relevant opinion, Sir. I was a big supporter of "Poribarton" (change) and massively campaigned for Trinamul, to the best of my capacity - just because we hoped for a change. Change has come, for the worst and the state has become like a funeral parlour. CM is acting like Caligula and inevitably running towards the same fate, as history suggests. Previously I used to vent my anger in facebook, but after seeing the reactions, have stopped it in fear of reprisals, not only from the Police,. from the stupid uneducated and corrupt trinamool workers. In CPM time, there was at least a semblence of order, some rule of justice, now that is no more. Each word you have said are true, only told nicely. -- Prof. SM (Professor in a topmost management school in the state)
ReplyDelete"some rule of justice in CPM time"??? wow...Now I can understand why WB education system is so bad ...because these kinds of 'Prof' are there in every colleges of Bengal !!
DeleteProf like you has made colleges HELL in Bengal. I am a passed out student from SurendraNath Law College and I know...how CPM Leaders were appointed in my college to ruin our education life. A CPM leaders was appointed as 'Prof', TIC in our college, who never ever took a single class in 5 years and were defeated in Municipality election by approx. 50,000 of votes !! Prof like you are shame in our state.
DeleteSame thing still going.
DeleteArabul is a live example for that.
Theft is theft. CPM Big theft,So TMC good, that does not means.
Education system in West Bengal is not as bad as stated. All the profs are not as bad as stared. I strongly believe that it was much much better earlier as expressed by the prof.
DeleteYes...IF TMC IS doing anything wrong, then I will say they are carrying the tradition made by CPM.... AND YES IT IS BAD...IT IS A FACT... now...u can point out few colleges ..but those ARE FEW.... WHY u think students are fighting in colleges?? BECAUSE when CPM used to be in power, STUDENTS used to join SFI to earn money and POWER. In most colleges, there were only 1 party i.e SFI and most students have learnt only 1 thing is colleges...i.e. JOIN SFI earn POWER AND MONEY. When Govt changes, THE SAME TRADITION ARE BEING CARRIED OUT BY STUDENTS..only change is they are now joining TMCP instead of SFI ..... You people have destroyed our college life. WE HAVE LEARN 0 thing about LAW in my College...AND I HAD TO LEARN EVERYTHING after being passed out from college. Students go there only to do politics and earn money through party.
DeleteYou are showing me example??? IT IS A SHAMEEEEE THAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU HAD MAKE THIS TRADITION AND TMC IS CARRYING THIS TRADITION. BUT IT IS CPM AND CPM MADE 'PROF' WHO F*** UP Student's mind just to stay in power. YES... TMC IS DOING WRONGGGGGGGG BUT IT IS NOT THAT THEY HAVE DISCOVERED IT... IT IS A TRADITION THAT GOING ON AFTER 34 years CPM RAJ ..
And 'Prof; of colleges are TOOOOOOO BUSY to teach students subjects. They are busy in going to Tv studio and talking same thing again and again ...everyday . 'Prof' of Bengal are too politically motivated to teach students their subjects. All day they do, is PNPC !! 'Prof' are busy doing group baji in every colleges. They are known as Party supporter rather than Subject !!
DeleteMamata banerjee is a lady from Kalighat Slums. How she handle Bengal!!
ReplyDeleteCM of a state described her critics as "barking dogs"......means this time she termed justice katju as a barking dog.......such language from a CM is unbelievable......know no language to condemn.......how she recite rabindranath tagore, its an wonder....!!!
ReplyDeletetwo kolkata news channels always praise tmc and mamata..one is news time run by rose valley group,a chit fund company.and the other one is channel 10 run by sambad protidin group whose editor is kunal ghose,a trinamool rajya sabha mp..another trinamool rajya sabha K.D. Singh is the owner of alchemist group, is also chit fund company..and everyone knows about the corruption tmc has done in the railway ministry..and yet mamata says that trinamool is a non corrupt party...
ReplyDeleteThank you Sir,
ReplyDeleteCan we have 'Rashtrapati Shasan' in West Bengal or re-election. We can not tolerate that CM for another 3 and half year. She will make WB worst than Lalu ruled Bihar.
Dear Respected Sir Mr. Katju, hats off to you and I must say your letter is not only yours voice, that 1 is the voice of millions of frustrated people of West Bangle those are feeling shame when they face to mentioned there MOST UNCULTURED MOST ILLITERATE & MOST CHEAP CM name some where, & unfortunately it seems like that no matter how much you/we can try but its not only difficult, reality is, it's impossible to make dog's tail straight..........
ReplyDeleteDear Sir
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Once again you have made a right justice for the people,by the people,of the people of West Bengal.
We are presently in a state where people are threatening by the govt. to post there views on blogs, social networking site etc.
It should be clear if you see the Facebook site of the CM,West Bengal where a comments is written that 'CID watching this site'.
After reading this who can approach to post a comments which may against of CM policies.
People of West Bengal
Dear Justice Katju,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your observations, advise and comments. Someone had to bell the cat. In west Bengal it is not very easy to oppose the ways of CM Since ( as you rightly said ) she is intolerant , whimsical and devoid of the mindset to accept any positive criticism. The people around her and in her ministry , specially persons with intellect and knowledge are getting increasingly frustrated by her adamant and headstrong attitude . She has to understand that since last 1 and half years she has become the CM and no longer a street fighting firebrand opposition. Criticisms will come on her way as a part of Democratic set up and without taking them has personal failures she need to take them in her stride and rectify the mistakes made by people in the Govt. machinery. When we criticise any incident we only expect her to take a unbiased and just action after proper inquiry and not outrightly reject everything as " politically motivated " ," to maign her Govt." I am still in favour of her uncompromising stand against " forceful aquisition of land" or " against FDI" of Price Rise" even I do not bite all her arguments and consider her as one of the most honest politicians but I am also the last person to accept such "fasist" attitude . I am totally against her recent rhetoric " Raja chale...." and denounce them as utter tasteless. We, who wanted a "Change" after the " Amra -Ora" (We- they) regime of arrogant Lefts really wanted something different, more humane and tolerant political governance.
@ Mr. Banerjee rightly you have said , yester day honble. CM said one word that might be did not noticed by any one ,that "I am not vindictive in nature , and I should not take any action against this criticism " , it means she is capable enough to take any action against this criticism but for some time being may be she should not take it. This is the real agony nowadays bengal going through. One word she used to tell in every gatherings when she was in opposition while criticizing CPIM that was "what have they thought about bengal is it their fathers land( baper jomidari peyeche), she said while wining the assembly election that " bodla noi bodol chai ", But CM aren't you taking bodla by this way ..........thanks
DeleteG.Banerjee
Sir, You have done a great job for the people of west bengal.

ReplyDeleteLockerz Invitation - SUCH A PATHETIC FELLOW!!(whoever 'it is) - I wonder which one is more worst - his writing quality of English or his political views (if there any at all) - and what about the group of neo-dhamadhora culture vultures filled with painters, poets, theater activists & (jobless) actors - their silence in support of a public figure making such undignified statement (that misquoting a proverb)''Raja...Kutta...bla,bla,bla...
Thank god, before uttering that proverb she didn't start with 'as Tagore once wrote' - it was better to be illiterate than be 'ILL'-literate like her and such 'dedicated' followers like Lockerz whatever...
it is though just the beginning of the end...
Hay...If my english is wrong/bad or whatever... then I dont give a damn... It is not my mother language and I dont care. I am not as PATHETIC as you people are who feels bad ans ashamed for not speaking GOOD ENGLISH.
DeletePeople like you, can't even speak a decent Bangla either and don't give a damn for that too..People like you use their 'incapability'(of speaking English properly and anything for the matter they are unable to do or understand)as a shield to shade their impotency and still manages to gain some importance unduly !!
DeleteYours is a known profile. I've seen and had close encounters with leeches like you for years- you were there shouting & abusing others in the same way during the dark CPIM regime - then, it was to support CPIM & now after taking a bath in Ganga you thought you've cleaned all your filth and dedicated your stupidity in a new package to another dumb evil whom you can share things with & relate to...
Tragedy of hidden locker(zzzzz) and a lost key...sad.
HAHAHHAHAHA...Common man... .1st of all ..how do u know I am a bengali person?? Ok...Maybe u thought since I am a TMC Supporter, I am a bengali person.
DeleteNow...How do u know I cant speak Bengali??? I never spoke bengali here !! So ... I think you are just wild guessing.
3rd you said, I am incapable of speaking english properly...Well... I dont care about it because english aint my mother lang and my parents were unable to send me to a English Media School due to lack of money !! So..I agree, I cant speak english properly but I dont feel shamed about it. Then you said, I still manages to gain some importance .... now I am going to laugh .. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.... why you give importance to unimportant people? Dont you have anything to do? Give importance to important people. I didn't ask for ur importance !! And I am not shielding my impotency since I agreed 1st time that I cant speak GOOD ENGLISH but not ashamed of it.
Now.. U said my profile is known to you and bla bla blaaaaaa.... If u have guts, give me screenshot about my posts made during CPM regime. Common... show me...how u know my profile and my comments.
Now.... Lockerz.com is a website lunched in 2008. They used to give gifts to people exchange of points. Now the site didn't allow open registration. People had to be invited to make registration ... So I made this blog so that people can give their email ID and I could send them invitation to help them join the site. Now...after years months, Lockerz.com opened its registration to all, and I never used it. After 4 years, I used this profile to post comments in this blog and before it, I never used it other than lockerz invitation purpose.
So, Brother/Sister, F O .. make sure your facts are right.

ReplyDeleteYou are talking about poor peaples of W.B?
Mamata is literally illiterate...like her blind followers...
cities like Bangalore, Pune, Hydrabad, Chennai even Bhubaneswar were not ruled by CPM for 34 years !!
Delete100% agree..me too an IT employee..was optimistic about INFOSYS, WIPRO 2nd campus but all gone for dirty politics...stupid politics...
DeleteBut, then ... didn't you get Trident Lamps exactly where and when (and at what cost) you did not (or did you?) want them?
Delete... let them eat cake ...
Respected Justice Katju,
ReplyDeletewith all due respects I would like to bring the fact in front of you that the honourable Chief Minister of the state of West Bengal is far above to make any kind of apology to any one, not just because of that she has the backing of 294 seats in the assembly, but she has had overthrown a Government of the well organized (and democratic as well,) Goons (Harmad-bahini) after a long 34 years that has no comparison in world history.
The very soon after she had conquered the Writer's Building she gave a message to the opposition leader to stay back with a sticking plaster on the lips. We believe that is just not for the honourable minister but for the people of the state as well. Therefore the Ministers and the bureaucrats are certainly not afraid of her or anything until they recite Tagore and/or Bannerjee...as they live in the modern age, not of the Kautillya.
Prof. Mahapatra, Mr.Choudhari, Ms.Sen they are certainly not the victim of the new Government but they all have been strictly governed by the hands of law ( no matter if the law belongs to IPC or TMC).
Sir, if you are aware of the headlines of the newspapers of today then you must know the reactions of the Lady ( and the Government as well)to your letter. As you are a man of law with vast education and experiences I would like to ask you for a more frequent open letters for the common people and not for the Government, ( I am not including the Lady if you can distinguish her from her Government), hence it is a more public concern than a personal/Government one.
Until the people of the state has a faith upon democracy let the people decide who will be on the chair (read 'throne'). Considering the political heritage of Bengal enriched by the contributions from Sri Umeshchandra Bandopadhay, Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das and all the others till date, you should leave the matter in the hands of the masses. And as per Tagore the poet, " a King is never wrong, and he remains no king if he's Wrong".
Once again I congratulate you for your concern for the state and thank you for your letter.
Regards

Can't speak good English? but well aware of F/O!!!and still so hypocrite & mediocre to write a simple 'Fuck Off'?!! - people like you & right facts???!!! - sounds like a chest-pocket of an underwear-
DeleteI sincerely wish - (1)let your CM ignore all the good advise offered to her by Mr. Katju and (2)Let there be people(??)like you all around her to support and guide her well to commit more frequent mistakes & stay dumbly confident even after all.
This way, it will be more chaotic yet smoother a process to kick her (alongwith TMC) out of the power she's relishing & misusing...
So, keep it up...& next time show some guts to write slang in their full form...
Dear Mr. Katju,
ReplyDeleteFrom a neutral zone of the society, you have come forward and shown courage for well being of Aaam Admi. Any Govt official as well as any one from own party has no courage. Comment of opposition has no such value. So more strong personality from neutral zone is required to come forward like you to clean the dirt in the governance. However I wholeheartedly support your initiative , who did not bother for a 'good boy' image and thought for good of all boys( and girls)

Ranjan Kumar Dey
Dear Mr.Katju,
ReplyDeleteThanks GOD! You are not a citizen of Calcutta or Rest of Bengal....., otherwise you could have been arrested & put behind the bar.
This is Bengal,,where everything is possible..
Zeeshan,
Kolkata
Justice Katju is our conscience keeper. I salute Justice Katju. After the great Krishna Iyer, he will be remembered as on of the most erudite and sensitive judges of this great country. personally I have seldom seen a man that tall. He can endlessly quote Tulsidas, Ghalib and Chanakya with equal ease.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sir ! for being our voice. We were so hopeful that she will bring a radical difference in governance of Bengal ... alas !! People under euphoria voted for her to see better days !!
ReplyDeleteWhatever you said is our words ! She need to change ... and what goofy statement she made today at Singur ! She is not fit for politics.
Sir,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I convey my heartfelt grretings to you for your comment.
The people of West Bengal are going through a period that can only be compared with the period of Hitler in Germany.
Anybody who speaks against her will become her enemy as well as enemy of the state.
We are very much ashamed to be a inhabitant of this state.Sir,you must know that Mahamati Gokhle once said "What Bengal thinks today India thinks tomorrow".In her period that saying becommes "What WestBengal CM speaks today nobody speak in India ever "
Sir,don't mind you are also somehow responsible for such a state of our beloved West Bengal whence earlier you have praised her.
The Bengalees residining outside their state are now-a-days ashamed to be recognised as a people of West Bengal.
We live in fear, nobody dares to speak against her or post any comment even in your blog.He or she may be arrested, raped, manhandled, hackled even murderdered.
Once the Cultural Capital of India becomes capital of hooliganism.
I appeal to our entire countrymen to save us ,save our dear West Bengal.
Sir,
ReplyDeletethe following goes to the credit of our redoubtable leader:
a. she is by nature vituperative and arrogant, uncorrupted by political ethics.
b. evety time she reshuffles her cabinet, the more notorious supersedes the less.
c. 45 lacs of job aspirants recently applied for the vacant primary teacher posts, and she promises complete eradication of unemployment
Sir,
ReplyDeleteyou said correctly. but is it necessary to stay someone or party all along in power? then they will be a replica of left government only. politicians should always accountable to public. I believe Didi forgot it!
First of all, Sir it is unacceptable to address someone like Ms.Mamata Banerjee as "CM" of any civilized, democratic, sovereign country's constitutional chief! She never fits any of such civilized paradigm! Democracy has fewer loopholes but people like 'Mamata' uses such loopholes and do whatever expected from them! If Adolf Hitler would won the election, will it be acceptable to honor his 'constitutional' post?
ReplyDeleteAzmal Kasav got capital punishment for terrorizing part of Bombay residents, now, who will bell the cat(sorry bitch) for terrorizing whole West Bengal?
