At a function in Lucknow which I attended some time back a young Muslim lady said that she would teach her children Urdu so that they could read the Quran.
At this I interjected and said " Mohtarma ( Madam ), do you think that Urdu is the jagir of Muslims ? It is as much my language as it is yours, though I am a Hindu. And as for the Quran, let me tell you firstly that it is in Arabic not Urdu, and secondly that there are as many, if not more, Ramayanas in Urdu than Qurans. "
