16th February, the birthday of George Washington, the first President of U.S.A. is celebrated as President's Day in America, and is a holiday in most states
The Presidents of America for whom I have the highest regard are :
1. George Washington
He was not only a great general, but also a great administrator. After serving two 4-year terms as President he declined a 3rd term, saying that if a person remains the President forever it will be restoring monarchy in America, something against which Americans had fought their War of Independence. This established a convention that a President will serve only for 2 terms, a convention which Franklin Roosevelt broke because of the contingencies of the Second World War, but which was later made a Constitutional principle..
2. Thomas Jefferson
Even if he had not become the 3rd President of America, Jefferson would have been immortalized as the man who wrote the American Declaration of Independence.of 1776
3. Abraham Lincoln
The man who kept America united, and abolished slavery.
4. Franklin Roosevelt
The President who had the foresight to realize the danger of Hitler, at a time when most Americans were isolationists. Without American help it is doubtful England could have survived as a free country.
